Discovery Robot In My Room
Want to find a way to encourage your child to start the saving habit? Of course, there is no better way to teach the little ones than by your example, but just in case you want to augment your thrifty lifestyle, here is the Discovery Robot In My Room that could go some ways in helping. This smart-aleck talking robot comes equipped with a motion detector and a twisted sense of humor, belting out something funny each time a coin is deposited. It has a repository of over 50 humorous responses, phrases and sound effects, featuring an LCD display that shows off your total coins and a built-in alarm clock. The Discovery Robot In My Room will retail for $39.95. It does look rather strange being headless though. (Read the full post about ‘Discovery Robot In My Room’…)

The slow moving Strenco ST-2 Steam Robot
It’s well known that geeks have their love for robots.  Whether it be loving to own/create them or talk about how they’re going to take over the world, we can’t get enough.  Well here’s one more cool robot for us to acquire.  This one doesn’t boast high speeds or any grand functions.  Just a slightly unconventional way of keeping it running.  It doesn’t use AA batteries or even a hand crank.  Instead it’s steam powered. Toyota’s Solar-powered Car
About six months ago, we reported that Toyota was planning on putting solar panels on the Prius to power the air-conditioner. It has been recently been released that the famed Japanese motor company plans to release a car that is completely solar-powered. As you can see on the photo, the solar panels are on the roof like solar panels of a house. This is only one way the car gets its power, as the company wants to supplement power by somehow attaching the car to the solar panels on the roofs of homes. This way, a car can be powered in a garage or parked outside. Toyota is actually quite ahead of the solar power game. (Read the full post about ‘Toyota’s Solar-powered Car’…)

SKIGYM allows for skiing at home
Sadly, it has been over a decade since I have been skiing, but I can tell you that nothing wears you out more than a day on the slopes. Your legs will get a great workout, and this is just one reason why you should have a SKIGYM. The other reason is that it is probably one of the best virtual skiing simulators that I have seen. The SKIGYM was developed from Pro-Idee in Germany with some help from sports specialists, ski instructors, and physical therapists. The balancing-control technology is similar to that of the WiiFit, but this SKIGYM isn’t available for a gaming console, but for the PC. The software includes Alpine Ski Racing 2007, which has 32 different ski slopes including 18 real life ones like Lake Louise, Beaver Lake, and Chamonix. The last coolest gadget of the week and $200 winner is…
We are a bit late announcing the winner of the last year’s final coolest gadget competition so without further ado it is the iMu Vibrating Speaker: Turn anything into a sound system. The iMu vibrating speaker will transform any flat, hard surface into a top notch audio speaker. You can listen to your beats from things like tops of household appliances, cupboards and even car bonnets. It works thanks to a unique US Navy-developed composite called Terfenol-D. Congrats again to Gaj-It. In second place we have the Anti-Grav R/C Wall Racing Car. Can an R/C car really impress nowadays? Yes, it definitely can. The Anti-Grav R/C Wall Racing Car races up walls. (Read the full post about ‘The last coolest gadget of the week and $200 winner is…’…)

Control Home Theater Components Behind Cabinet Doors
Since I installed my IR distribution system a few years ago, things have really progressed! Channel Vision’s All-In-One IR System is not your older brother’s IR distribution system but includes an IR Repeater with a plasma-proof receiver and 2 dual IR emitters as well as multiple mounting possibilities for the IR receiver. Keep your home theater devices behind closed cabinet or closet doors, even when they’re in use. The All-in-One IR System makes sure that all of your A/V components receive the commands sent from your existing IR remote controls, even without line-of-sight access. The Sprinkler Hide-A-Key
Everyone knows about the cheesy rocks with hidden compartments and the trick of hiding the key underneath the welcome mat.  However, if you’re on the lookout for a solution that won’t be quite so obvious, those two tricks aren’t exactly ideal.  You might go for something a bit more subtle like this Sprinkler-Hide-A-Key.  It will blend in great with your garden as well as the rest of your sprinklers.  Just try not to forget which is the hide-a-key and which is just another sprinkler. How’s your Blu-ray player doing at home? Arm-Rest Table Pad
If your boss is too cheap to buy you a comfortable working chair that has arm rests, letting you sit on a plastic stool all day long, perhaps it is time you considered investing $19.99 in the Arm-Rest Table Pad. The name of the device is pretty much self-explanatory - it was specially designed to attach to most work tables, with the aim to reduce arm fatigue, prevent injuries and save money on medical bills in the long run. Constructed from sturdy metal, you won’t need a single tool to assemble this and comes in handy at both home and the office. Just make sure the table is no thicker than 5cm and you’re good to go. If you need to get this for the office, we doubt that you can claim the $19.99 from the Claims Department either. (Read the full post about ‘Arm-Rest Table Pad’…)

Here is our 2009 updated version of the ‘What to Bring Particularly if You’re Press‘.

You need a laptop for your hotel room even if you use the USB thumbdrive technique w/ portable apps during the day. You may still not be able to get one of the press room machines. Another thing to keep in mind is that while it’s getting better, WiFi can be spotty, so having an EVDO card or cell phone w/ a tether cable may be huge.

  • Laptop - get a light one, preferrably under 5lbs.
  • Extra battery and/or external Powerstick-type thing
  • Power adapter for laptop
  • Portable mouse
  • digital camera w/ enough memory, an extra battery and charger
  • Video camera
  • Portable music/video player w/ headphones - it can be really noise in the press rooms and on the show floor
  • Good laptop backpack or saddle bag w/ good straps.
